The Best Light For Photographs

Beautiful photographs depend on the quality of the available light.

So, when’s the best time of day to schedule a shoot?

Have you ever heard of golden hour or magic hour?

It’s this perfect time of day an hour or two after sunrise and an hour or two before sunset, when the light is most flattering.

Everyone looks stunning and the whole world is amazing and you can hear the angels sing and… ok that’s a little bit hyperbolic, but you get my drift, and us photographers LOVE it! Because all jokes aside it really is the best time of day to photograph portraits.

And why do we love it so much?

Because it’s when the light from the sun is soft and even, which means no harsh shadows or squinty faces. It also means I’m not restricted by where I can shoot. The sunlight has a warm tone that is the most flattering for skin tones and allows me to shoot from all different angles as I don’t need to worry about the position of the sun as much.

So, my advice to you when booking a session is to aim for that golden hour period even if it means having to get up really early, it will be worth it I promise!!
